fixing the icloud+ custom domains error this email is already in use with another apple id
2021-11-17
I tried Apple’s custom domain with iCloud Mail feature, part of the iCloud+ offering.
Adding my ineed.coffee
domain in there worked flawlessly. When I added my e-mail address @ineed.coffee
in there, however,
I received the error “This email is already in use with another Apple ID”.
Apparently, I had registered an Apple ID in the past with my @ineed.coffee
e-mail address and forgot about it.
A quick search revealed that the issue is not easy to fix, but I managed to fix it. Here is how:
- Login with the Apple ID that uses your domain.
- Follow the instructions to change it to another e-mail. I used an alias of a Gmail address I have (for example,
[email protected]
). - Wait one day.
- Delete the Apple ID via privacy.apple.com. Here are some more detailed instructions from Macrumors.
- Wait a variable number of days, at maximum this is 30 days, for an e-mail by Apple with subject Your Apple ID account has been deleted..
Now you can add your e-mail address and enjoy this new iCloud+ service.
