re-creating franzmagazine.com website

2011-08-09

Today I am starting a new project with a Prof. Matteo Moretti of the Faculty of Design and Art at the Free University of Bolzano-Bozen. The project consists in re-creating the actual website of Franz Magazine, A Magazine that “observes and investigates the social and cultural phenomena of its territory” in the local area of South Tyrol, Italy.

The website will dwell as a heavy modification of Wordpress themes, plugins and features to meet the customer’s and the graphic’s requirements. Therefore, Prof. Moretti is responsible for defining the graphics (CSS, HTML) of the new website while I am responsible for the “under-the-hood” development (PHP, and some Javascript). It is a series of challenging and interesting tasks for me as a Software Engineer, since the work starts with the elicitation of requirements, includes a huge series of modifications of an existing product (Wordpress) and ends with the final product.

A soft deadline for the project is at about mid-October, while a soft deadline for import and merge all the posts of the current website (based on Joomla) is at about mid-December.

It is a pleasure for me to be part of this project and to work with Prof. Moretti. This may lead to a start of other interesting collaborations that (again) emphasize the importance of the symbiosis between designers/graphicians and developers.
