sigsoft open science policies are live!

2020-06-29

As previously announced, I have been developing open science policies under the SIGSOFT open science initiative for some time now. I am glad to announce that the policies are live and publicly available.

The policies are self-contained and structured in a way that, with a couple search-and-replace operations, they are ready for use with any software engineering and computer science venue (journal, conference, or workshop). The policies are accompanied by instructions for reviewers / PC members, as well.

For maximizing the chance that the policies get adopted as quickly and as widespread as possible, I decided to release them under a CC0 deed, that means that I waived my copyright over them to make them effectively public domain. So, go ahead, copy them as they are, modify them, and use them freely (including for commercial purposes) without any need to provide attribution.

See the policies live at https://ineed.coffee/open-science-policies. Provide feedback and pull requests at https://github.com/acmsigsoft/open-science-policies.

The plan now is to gather some feedback from the public and formally release a 1.0.0 version of the policies. Right now they are pretty stable and usable already—I have developed and used them over the years and with various venues already—but there is always room for improvement.

I hope you find them useful, and contact your favorite editor in chief / steering committee member today to have them in use!

I do not use a commenting system anymore, but I would be glad to read your feedback. Feel free to contact me.
